MIDPOINT REFLECTION

How has the internship been the same as and/or different than your expectations?

Internship has been different as I expected because I always thaught that it is going to be very boring and that i wont learn anything but i actually gained lots of the new skills from my site. I also got new expereince with working with people who are in the high careers and learned how they acheived their goals.

What is similar and different about the culture of the school environment versus the workplace environment?
There is a lot of contrast between school and my internship site environments. Everyone at my site looks always buzy working and just always focused on work. Everyone around is always on the run. In school everyone is always chating with everyone and everyone is always making fun and talking very loud. At my internship site it is very quite and nobody even raises their voices because they dont need it.

What new skills have you learned that apply to the workplace? Which of these are transferable skills?
New skills that i learned are communication skills, computer skills, fieling skills. Communication Skills helped me to communicate with the adults who work in the important careers. I communicate with my mentor and i progrees my vocabularry with him. Computer skills because my mentor always asks me how to research some of the important fashion desgigners websites to see what they have on the market. Fieling Skills i gained because my mentor also asks me to fiel some papers in the right folders.

What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-workers? How have you grown as a result of interacting with professional adults? What kinds of communication (verbal and non-verbal skills) have you gained?
I am in a very great relationship with my mentor because he is a great role model for me and he sets up an examples for me how to be in his bussiness if i will ever consider it. Also i think that he had helped me with my interacting skills with talking to the people and using some of the vocabulary that i learned from my mentor. I gained a verbal communications because all we always do is interact with each other and i learn some great vocabulary and parts of speech that i can use from him.

What challenges at the internship have you faced that you have overcome and how did you overcome them?
Some challenges that i have faced in my internship were to choose some of the textiles i was very afraid to make a mistake of choosing the wrong textile for a designer. You never know what will satisfy the client and you are afraid if its going to be the wrong piece of material that they wont be interested in and my company wont get any profit.

What challenges have you faced in school as a result of the altered schedule and how are you handling them?
Some of the challenges that i have faced in school is that i have lots of work to do in school such as homeworks and school work to be finished on time. There is a lot of work to do in school and when you get to internship you have no time to finish all the work because there should be a lot of time managment going on. But its hard to keep up with everything at the same time.

What goals are you working to accomplish during the remaining five weeks of the internship?
Some of the goals that i am wroking on to finish by the end of the internship is that i hope to learn and gain good communication skills. Learn how to get networking with people. Also to get more information in the fashion field when i might to consider it for my future career or not. Also to gain lots of new skills that will help me in my future career.

What new things have you learned about New York City?
Some new thing that i have learned about New York City is everyone is always on the run nobody cares about what they wearing. It could 80 to 90 degrees and people would still wear UGGS and thats shows that people just wear what they are comfortable in because they are always buzy and they always on the run. Also i see that New York City and especially manhattan is made of industries which are all about the money. Money are the profit why THE CITY is still standing.

Description of my Internship Site

The site that i work at is T.D.G which stands for textile design group. This company produces textiles for designers. In our office there is more than 6 million textiles for designers to choose from. It all starts from florals, plaids, madrases, dress shirtings and much more.
The jobs that people have there is the sales representitives and the owner of our company is Dorsey Adler who created her own book about textiles is "Swatches."
My mentors name is Josh Bonilla he is the sales representitive which means he works with the clients who order the textiles for him and he has to choose the best that fits designers choice.

Some cool things that i have done over my forth week of the internship was that it was very cool to pick textiles for the ones of my favorite companies such as "BEBE" and "Juicy Couture" and " Michael Kors". I was really excited to chooses textlies for them. Also i had to pick up the surf shirts textiles for man my mentor told me that i did a grat job and that designer loved the textiles that i picked out so i was really proud of myself!

Week Three as a High School Intern

It going by very fast from day to day.

Every day I have different piece of work in my table.
T.D.G is all about difference because in out small office we have more than 6 million different textiles. Every day we receive an email that our mentor gives us from different famous companies such as "Michael Kors" , "AEROPSTALE" "Ralph Lauren" "BEBE" and much more and even international companies request for our textiles. Me and my coworker pick out the textiles that would mostl likely match the request from the companies.
Some of the textlies that i worked with already were Plaids, Florals, Dress Shirts Stripes, Jaquards, Woolen, and all diffrent types of.
Also we do organizing the boxes and divide into different categories of colors.
All day long we have work to keep us buzy. Each day you learn about different textiles, and organizing skills and also about diffrent companies that excist today in the world that create everydays fashion in the universe. Basiclly the work that we do is to pick the textile that will be turned into piece of work that will be clothing that you, or me or any person will wear next season.

Week 2 - Getting better acquainted with your site

Second Week :)
~Every day is a very diffrent day for me and thats what i love about it~

Well based on this story all i can say is that you always have to think before you say something

The job that i do is always different every day because every day we have different clients that are designers. They all have different imaginations and different styles.

The quote that i read in the book "Swatches" by Dorsey Sitley Adler who is my mentor as well as Josh Bonilla. The saying that is written in the book is " Before designer puts a pen to a paper, paint to a canvas or fingers to a computer keyboard it most helpful to first visualize an idea in the mind' s eye and the quality of one's source of material can make all the diffrence."

All i can say about the story with your intern is that its a lesson learned. Its hard to overcome that not understanding and feeling of rejection but its always important to come clean about it. However you always have to make sure to explain yourself correctly and its okay to take time to think about what to say before actually saying it.

February 23, on Monday was my first day of the Internship in the T.D.G

The environment that I work in is the small office with tons of textile there is more than 6 million textiles to choose from. Everyday we will have some new oreders to choose from and to match designers choice. This year there is new collection coming out for spring and summer which means birght colors with floral designs.

OOooohhhhhh well most of the things I enjoy doing there because its gaining new experince and skills. The office that I work in is like apple of the city it between Fasion Ave and Fifth Ave which are the most popular streets in the CITY!!

I hope everything will continue the way it is going these days!
